When I was a kid, my friends and I watched re-runs of Gilligan’s Island after school. There was one episode that was always our favorite. We loved the one where the Japanese sailor (who doesn’t realize the war is over, of course) arrives in our castaways’ lagoon aboard his tiny submarine. Oh, how we longed for a tiny submarine of our own. Deep down inside, I still long for one.
So it’s no exaggeration to say that my heart skipped a beat when I saw this picture. WOW! HOW? HOW MUCH?! Alas, it’s a hobby project, not an in-production item available at your local West Marine. Still, in my opinion, this is just…totally…awesome.
Recently, I watched the Disney “classic” (not really) The Boatniks, and was reminded that it, too, had been a major influence on this young child’s fragile eggshell mind, because it also has a cool mini submarine! Someday, I knew, I would have my own mini submarine.
And here I am, and I’m thinking “It’s the FUTURE, already, and we’re supposed to have flying cars and everything…I want my mini sub! Where’s my mini sub?! Hello?!?”
