Check out the tag line the folks at Neptune Slat Systems have adopted: “Nautical sleep comfort and mildew prevention.” Hey, sign me up!

They had samples of this product at Fisheries Supply last week, but it doesn’t seem to be featured on their website yet. I called Fisheries, and they assure me they’ll have a sample at the upcoming Seattle Boat Show.
The product appears to be well-made and thoughtfully designed. Manufactured in the Netherlands, the Neptune Slat System felt to me as if it would be very comfortable to sleep on. In addition to providing some spring-like support for your mattress, the slats also lift the mattress and bedding up off the deck, so condensation has a chance to escape.

You can purchase a 100 cm × 200 cm kit (that’s 39″ × 78″ for you Americans), or a 130 cm × 200 cm kit (51″ × 78″). For even wider berths, you can combine two sets. With either, you just cut individual slats as needed to fit your space and assemble. It all snaps together, kind of like big-kid Legos, but you get a good night’s rest on it afterward!
I’m not sure it would work on a little boat like my C-Dory 22…headroom is already at a premium in the V-berth, so lifting the cushions up almost 2 inches might do more harm than good. In a boat without the headroom issues, though, this could really transform one’s sleep experience. If it did, it would easily justify the price.

Tim Flanagan,
Nice product to get peaceful sleep.
Hi!
Oh my goodness… didn’t know this site existed and glad to have found it! Storage issues, sleeping comfort etc all things I’ve been looking for.
My question is this, the Neptune system sounds and looks like a wonderful product but what about vessels with berth headroom issues? In our case, when a pillow is added to the berth it leaves about 5″ or less between you and the hatch area. Maybe reversing our position of sleep would help but I am curious, is there another similar product for our situation? Thanks!
