Just a quick note: If you are interested in keeping up-to-date on the current crisis with the Washington State Ferry system, your “Go-To” website should be Captain Richard Rodriguez’s BitterEnd blog. He’s keeping up with all the media outlets as well as presenting credible opinions from those without a voice in the conventional media. And…just occasionally…he might hint at an opinion of his own. ![]()

I’m relatively new to this state and I must admit that it has ‘issues’ with transportation. Seems like no one can make a decision. Take the Port Townsend ferry for instance where you have a boat thats been in service for 80 years and finally it is so broken it can’t be fixed. C’mon, someone must have noticed! I know there was a big ruckus about not wanting to expand the ferry terminal in Port Townsend, which limited the size of the ferry that could be used, but keeping the same ferry and praying it’ll stay together is no plan! People have to realize that taking no action IS taking action and it must be planned for. Ignoring the inevitable is just dumb.
Recently we had 2 ferrys go bump at or near the Bremerton terminal. Hey, mistakes happen and the Coast Guard is looking into the incidents. My fear is that these ‘newer’ ferrys are on the same replacement plan the Port Townsend ferry was on…the Grateful Dead, “I need a Miracle” plan. Please, someone tell me that the government has this under control. Then again, this is the same government that wants to tear out 40 miles of train tracks on the west side of Lake Washington and replace them with a bike route and has South bound traffic on I5 narrow to 2 lanes going through Seattle. I have little hope.
