Navagear Goes MAD! (Mad Mariner, That Is)

by Tim on June 4, 2008

Ahem…is this microphone on? Can you hear me in the back? [cue soundfx: mic feedback] OK…um…thanks for stopping by today.

See, I’ve got an announcement to make. Get it? Anyway, here goes:

I’m very pleased to announce that Navagear is now the newest member of the Mad Mariner family of fine boating blogs. (Oooh, alliteration!)

As Martha Stewart might say, “It’s a good thing.” The partnership with Mad Mariner, I mean. Not the alliteration, necessarily.

I’ll admit that I was skeptical when Mad Mariner first launched: a subscription online content service? About boating?!? “Sorry, guys, but it can’t be done.”

When I mentioned my skepticism to Mad Mariner Editor Glen Justice, he said something like “Yeah, we get that a lot!”

Anyway, I was wrong, and I can admit it. Mad Mariner rocks, and here’s why:

Mad Mariner just keeps generating high-quality content, week after week after week. As the link on Navagear’s home page says, “A New Feature Length Story Every Day.”

Like, for instance, a survey of man-overboard alarm systems.  Just…you know…to pick an example completely at random. Never mind that I wrote it…you’re missing the point.

What I’m trying to say is this: Compare the quantity and quality of Mad Mariner’s content to any of the traditional hardcopy boating magazines, and I think you’ll conclude, as I have, that Mad Mariner is more than competitive, especially at the currently discounted subscription price of $16.50 for an entire year.

But heck, don’t take my word for it. Just look at the site. Click on any of the featured content; every new article is completely free for at least the first day or so. If you want to take a deeper look, sign up for the free 30-day trial. You’ll see.

Of course, Navagear is free already, and it will remain free…have no fear. The Navagear.com site will continue to operate just as you’ve come to expect. But Navagear posts will also appear over on the Mad Mariner site, along with a lot of other great boating blogs. Blogs such as Ben Ellison’s Panbo, Diane Byrne’s Megayacht News, and Tom Tripp’s Ocean Lines, just to name a few of my favorites.

This new partnership is what I call a win-win-win. Mad Mariner benefits, Navagear benefits, and readers of both sites benefit.

Tim – Many thanks for your kind words. Navagear is just the kind of website that every Mad Mariner out there should be reading. I cannot get enough gadget gouge, so keep it coming!
