[This information provided by the manufacturer. I'm no chemist, so I'm interested in learning more about the problems associated with ethanol gasoline, and how ValvTect improves the situation. —Tim]
Due to potential engine problems caused by ethanol gasoline, boaters are using fuel additives at a record level.
Verified by engine manufacturers and ASTM tests, the new ValvTect Ethanol Gasoline Treatment is proven to stabilize gasoline, prevent corrosion, control moisture to help prevent phase separation, reduce octane loss and clean-up carbon deposits.
Ethanol gasoline destabilizes quickly and can prevent starting, cause stalling and plug fuel filters. ValvTect Ethanol Gasoline Treatment is test proven to stabilize fuel for up to one year. As established under ASTM test procedures, it improved fuel stability 130% better than enzyme fuel treatments. In the ASTM Water Interface test, ValvTect’s additive was 50% more effective than enzyme-based additives, thereby better reducing the chance of phase separation. Additionally, ValvTect was substantially more effective at preventing rust and corrosion.
Documented in Chrysler and BMW engine tests, ValvTect Ethanol Gasoline Treatment helps prevent and clean-up power-robbing carbon deposits from fuel injectors and intake valves. This results in improved fuel economy, better performance, reduced exhaust emissions and longer engine life.
Specially-formulated for marine engines, ValvTect Ethanol Gasoline Treatment is available at West Marine stores and other leading marine supply dealers in a 12 oz. bottle that treats 120 gallons of fuel.

Tim, While there are certain areas where NON-ethanol gasoline is hard to find, the best advice you could offer boaters is to purchase gas withOUT ethanol, or where only E10 is sold to purchase gas with the lowest amt. alcohol (below 5%). Replacing fuel often (every 1-3 weeks for high risk marine engines) is among several other non-additive simple measures which will help to prevent some of the negative effects of E10. Sometimes when prolonged storage is necessary (and non-ethanol gas unavailable) certain fuel additive products will help to stabilize fuel- but the problem remains that many ingredients contained in additives have similar (negative) effects as ethanol does, when used in excess. E.G. Cellosolve (aka 2-butoxy-1-ethanol, Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether, etc.), is a strong synthetic “solvent”, “cleanser” and “degreaser”, just like ethanol -While keeping engine clean and free of deposits is recommended, 10% ethanol is more than enough to keep engine clean…and excess strong solvents (in additives) poses the risk of premature wear-down of engine parts, hoses, fuel pumps, rubber/plastic parts, etc. Many additive ingredients that were very effective in past (used in non-ethanol gas) are no longer necessary or useful in ethanol-blends. Ethanol is a very effective “water absorber, cleanser, solvent, degreaser, cleanser etc. Adding more of these type ingredients to E10 for “prevention” is overkill. Since pure ethanol has an octane of about 115, you will also find many octane additives that contain ethanol. With E10, if and when you feel you must add an additive, stick to lubricating, corrosion inhibitors and/or (non-alcohol) octane enhancing ingredient-based products. This post does not specifically refer to Valvtect products – It is a general warning to all boaters that unfortunately do not review or understand the ingredients contained in many gas additives that can/may increase risks when used in E10 fuel blends. E10 blends will never be appropriate for engines that reside in water or require storage of gas over 1 month. There are boaters that are purchasing 90-100% alcohol-based products, to solve “alcohol” E10 problems. Simply makes no sense whatsoever! E.G. Evinrude 2+4 fuel conditioner contains 95% alcohol, K-100 marine treatment is 100% alcohol, the list goes on and on… Why would a consumer believe these products are effective for E10 prevention? Answer= False or misleading advertisements and product claims.
Thanks to the Government for putting ethanol in our gas, it has cost me my weedeater, boatmotor and chainsaw. The Government did not consider the poor working class people that work hard for what they have when they put the ethanol in the gas that it would tear up everything we own. We cut our on wood, cut our on grass and we love to go fishing every once and a while, well our brillant Government decided to put this crap in the gas and its tearing up everything. They wanted to boost the economy, looks like they succeeded by putting that in the gas cause you have to go out and buy new stuff.
