Navagear feature on MadMariner: Virtual Lifeline installation, virtually painless

by Tim on March 18, 2009

Jump over to MadMariner to see what I learned about installing Maritech’s Virtual Lifeline man-overboard alarm/engine kill switch. Plus my preliminary test results with the system.

I think the fact that it only shuts off the engine when it comes OUT of Salt water is a bit weird and not too practical. Also really needs a manual by-pass mode in case you can’t get all the water out before you drift onto the rocks.

For $64,000.- how does it deal with Twin engines?

It has a bypass called “Rescue Mode”. Press that button and start the engine normally. It handles twin engines fine, but you need to purchase the model set up for twin engines.

At this point, my only remaining concern is the performance in saltwater. That’s why I’ll be testing it this summer, someplace where the water’s WARM! :-)
