San Juan Islands Vessel Assist season starts

May 7th, 2009 · by Tim Flanagan, Managing Editor

[Here's one of those stories that would have appeared in Navagear a year ago, and now appear over at PugetSoundMaritime. Just a reminder to check out my other blog once in a while! —Tim]

Our friend and fellow blogger Captain Richard Rodriguez has made his move. He’s up in Friday Harbor for the summer, living aboard one boat and working, as a Vessel Assist skipper, aboard another.

[Here's Captain Rodriguez consulting with Arwen, one of my "lucky fish", during a tricky maneuver aboard Vessel Assist Remedy last summer. Look at the concentration.]

Watch his BitterEnd blog all summer long for stories of the inconvenienced, the unfortunate, the foolish, and “those with attitude”.

I always enjoy BitterEnd, but I must admit it has a certain quality of schadenfreude. Even if you don’t know the word, you certainly know the phenomenon.

By the way, I’ll be heading up to Friday Harbor myself this weekend. Watch for Two Lucky Fish via AIS.
