Time for another Navagear feature at MadMariner! In it, I discuss some of the options available for realtime status reports, essentially updating your float plan as you go, letting friends and family know where you are and what your intentions are.

I am pleased to continually see how Twitter and Tweeting is finding a niche in safety concerns. We in the Seattle area heard about 2 hikers recently lost while hiking in the Cascades. I don’t know if there was cell coverage, but I do know the FAA goal is to have adequate coverage across the US. Using Twitter (I have not yet signed up) seems like the next step when planning one’s adventures, whether it be on the waters or in the forests. Any thoughts?
