I’ve decided to enter the powerboat event associated with this year’s Leukemia Cup sailing regatta here in Seattle. The powerboat event is called AquaQuest, and it sounds like a lot of fun.
AquaQuest is a scavenger hunt on Lake Union. It is NOT a race! There’s a 7-knot speed limit all over Lake Union and attached waterways, so the event has been designed to be fun and competitive WITHOUT the need for speed.
In fact, I spoke with Brianna Rockenstire of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and she assured me that they’ve made every effort to strike a balance between clues your kids can help you figure out and clues the whole crew will really need to think about. My crew will consist of my 10-year-old daughter Kiera and another dad-n-daughter pair from her school.
Two Lucky Fish will be running her Shine Micro Class-B AIS, as usual, so anybody can follow our progress at marinetraffic.com. Assuming I have a free moment, I’ll send Twitter “realtime float plan” updates as well.
Here’s a bit more detail on the AquaQuest event:
Get a Clue and Make a Difference
What does Barbie say when she has a flat tire?
Unscramble the following letters and find a business on Lake Union: Bratwurst bee oil
Join other powerboaters on June 12, 2010 for the first-ever AquaQuest. Unscramble clues like those above to solve the mystery in this fun-filled scavenger hunt on Lake Union, benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
To join the fun, all you need is a boat, inquisitive friends and a sense of adventure. Teams will compete against each other to decipher clues that will lead them to locations around the lake. Make sure your sleuthing skills are up to par – you’ll need to solve every part of the puzzle to crack the case. Boats of all sizes and speeds are welcome, so gather up your families, coworkers and wittiest friends and join the Quest. Every team who solves the mystery will be entered into a drawing for some exciting prizes.
